Jonathan Collins, British Cycling Tutor and REC First Aid Trainer

Jonathan Collins

British Cycling Mountain Biking Leadership Tutor & REC First Aid Trainer

I've been in the biking business for 16 years  and I really love what I do. From the British Cycling Mountain Biking Leadership Courses where I enjoy meeting a new bunch of aspiring instructors and training them up to become leaders, to having a fun day out with kids, teaching them new skills and playing games. I also enjoy quiet days in the workshop, tinkering with my bikes and getting stuck into some challenging repairs. However, I'm not keen on rain, but who is?

As well as working on the bike I enjoy getting out riding for pleasure. Biking really is a huge part of my life and I can definitely say that I have met the best people I know through it. I mainly ride cross country and love big mountain routes with awesome views.

Chloe Rafferty

MBLA Mountain Bike Leader & Trainee MBLA Tutor

I am a dedicated cyclist and can be found out on a bike pretty much every day! I can't get enough of the technical climbs and fast swoopy singletracks that cover the beautiful mountains. If I'm not summit bagging on my mountain bike I'll be churning out some miles on the roads. Previously I worked as a freelance graphic designer, including some stints on What Mountain Bike and MBUK magazines. I have been an MBLA instructor for a number of years and am working towards become a tutor. I get a real buzz taking groups out riding, showing them new trails and teaching them cool skills to help them ride safer, faster and have more fun on their bikes.

Other outdoor qualifications:

  • Single Pith Climbing Award (SPA)
  • Summer Mountain Leader (ML)

My Bikes:

  • Giant Anthem X1 (cross country)
  • Kona Kula (hard tail cross country)
  • Trek X1 (road bike)

Places I've ridden:

  • Cross country: Spain, Switzerland, France, Italy and all over the UK.
  • Downhill: French Alps.
  • Road: All over North Wales and 700 miles around the Welsh border to raise money for Mountain Rescue in Sept '10. Hopefully the Alps in 2011 and I'd like to do another big ride for charity this year, maybe around Ireland or Scotland.

Other things I like:

  • Climbing - I also teach climbing!
  • Hiking - I' lead groups with my ML (Mountain Leader qualification).
  • Creative Stuff - I like making stuff and still dabble in Graphic Designer (see logo!).
